We worked with midwest energy provider Xcel Energy on a company-wide change initiative that fundamentally shifted the company’s approach to performance management and affected every employee from HQ employees to the service people in the field working on the power grid and gas lines.

We had worked on a similar initiative for Gap Inc., but an energy utility is a totally different animal than a global retailer. So we began our work with a two day summit at the company’s HQ in Minneapolis, Minnesota to immerse ourselves in the Xcel’s culture, meet and talk with their employees, and map out a plan of action for launching the initiative.

Over the course of 6 months, we met with executives and HR leaders regularly, ensuring that our work was headed in the right direction and everyone was on board. The project rolled out in phases, first to senior leaders through talking points and printed collateral, then to managers and directors, and finally to all eligible employees.

When all was said and done, the campaign included several pieces of print collateral including direct mail, a microsite on the company’s intranet, too many PowerPoint decks to count, and a series animated videos with custom music and narration, all produced and directed by us.

What the Client Says

I worked with Chris and Hundred Acre Design to develop a brand, visual identity, and related collateral for our new performance management program. From the initial exploratory call, Hundred Acre Design made every step of our engagement seamless and easy. Early on, they spent time with our team to get a clear understanding of not only our immediate needs, but also our corporate culture so that his creations would be a good fit for us.

Throughout the process, they stayed in close contact, very clearly articulating the expectations, needs, and the progress they were making. The end result was remarkable! With their creative vision, we ended up with a collection of visual elements and associated materials that is incredibly polished and professional - and a perfect fit for our program and what we’re working to accomplish. Many thanks to Chris and his team for making me – and our whole program – look so good!
